Nellson Launches New Flash Formulation Management System to Streamline Processes and Improve Efficiency, Traceability and Customization

(June 6, 2023) Anaheim, CA – Nellson, LLC, a leading North American manufacturer of branded and private label nutritional bar and functional powder solutions, recently announced the launch of their Formulation Library and Specs Hub (FLASH). FLASH is an upgrade to its previous formulation management system originally developed by Thomas Radke, a Scientist, Director of R&D Technology & Innovation, and 33-year employee of Nellson. FLASH will help to organize and streamline the commercialization process with greater accuracy and efficiency so customers can rely on a consistently high-quality product with great speed to market.
FLASH will act as a central hub for the creation, management, storage and manufacturing process of formulas across Nellson’s four manufacturing plants which are located in California and Montreal. Launched in March 2023, the system is the culmination of a three-year project led by Nellson’s internal team and partnering with a third-party developer.
Nellson’s new FLASH Formulation Management System offers advanced capabilities that enable improvements in efficiency, traceability and customization such as:
- Formula versioning
Enables users to easily view iterations of a formula throughout the development process, useful in comparing formula iterations and tracking changes, including price comparisons.
- Regulatory compliance
Ability to generate reports on compliance status with relevant regulations, standards and certifications.
- Audit reports
Generates audit reports documenting formula development, modification (versions) and approval processes, providing transparency and accountability for Nellson and its customers.
- Customized reporting
Advanced customizable report generation for users to track and report on various aspects of formula development including formula creation, costs, timing and more.

Nellson Employees Help Lift Up Kids in Need

Our Anaheim and Ontario Community Impact teams recently spent time at Megan’s Wings, a Southern California nonprofit that supports families navigating childhood cancer.
Founded in memory of Megan Savage, the organization works to ease the financial and emotional burdens that often come with a cancer diagnosis. Volunteers assembled “Hope Bags” filled with toys, fun activities and handwritten notes—creating small moments of joy for children during hospital stays.
It was another example of the good that happens when humans come together. Big hugs to all involved!
Nellson and Partners Team Up To Support Feed the Children

Well, the votes have been counted and the results are in! With your guidance, we will be supporting Feed the Children to help end childhood hunger.

Nellson Achieves EcoVadis Silver Medal

Our strides in sustainability earned us a silver medal! Among thousands of companies across hundreds of industries, EcoVadis recognized Nellson for the significant progress we’ve made.

Whether you sell bars or powders, a healthier planet is good for all of us. To secure a cleaner future, we’re constantly improving our sustainability practices. Our approach includes a wide range of measures and touches all operations.
Meeting our sustainability goals
We set some ambitious targets for 2024 and exceeded even our own expectations. We reduced energy consumption, increased recycling and decreased our total emissions. We’re also happy to say that our Canadian facilities operate entirely on renewable electricity.
Beyond going green
EcoVadis factors in four categories for their awards: the environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. As a company that has always put people first, we were well prepared. We are committed to SEDEX audits at all sites and corporate-wide training for ethics, DEI, safety and ESG.
Leading the way
These collective efforts paid off in a big way this year with our EcoVadis silver medal. We achieved the distinction by ranking in the top 15% of over 130,000 companies across 220 industries.

So, what’s next for 2025? We’re going to continue to invest in energy and wastewater reduction projects while showing a healthy respect for people everywhere.
